In the last few years, the industrial market has become the target of hackers that have successfully compromised control system networks. These include Stuxnet, a Florida Water Treatment plant, the Colonial Pipeline Ransomware attack, etc. To address these issues, the industrial network standards groups are all extending their specifications to include security. Hilscher’s netX 90 chip is the first industrial network chip with functionality incorporating security. We now have a beta release for EtherNet/IP CIP Security, PROFINET security and, shortly, OPC/UA.
