As an important part of the Hilscher product life cycle management process, this letter serves as a notification about the upcoming modification of the COMX 51CA-RE. Due to a long delivery time of individual components, Hilscher has modified the product as described below. All modifications were tested extensively by Hilscher and have passed all compatibility tests successfully.

Redesign COMX 51CA-RE

 Reasons of change

•  Revision 2 to Revision 3:

   -  The discontinuation of Intel’s step-down DC/DC converter EP53A8LQI with limited last-time-buy quantities forces Hilscher in re-designing the COMX 51CA-RE.

 • Revision 3 to Revision 4:

  -  The semiconductor shortage caused a bottleneck of the step-down DC/DC converter FAN2001MPX from OnSemi / Fairchild.

Description of change

Due to the reasons described above, COMX 51CA-RE will be delivered from August on with revision 3 or revision 4

• Changes from Revision 2 to Revision 3:

   -  EP53A8LQI will be replaced by FAN2001MPX 
   -  Change in the numbers of layers  
   -  Removing the heatsink

 • Changes from Revision 3 to Revision 4:

   -  FAN2001MPX will be replaced by LM3691TL-1.5/NOPB
 
• The new revision 4 of COMX 51CA-RE module integrates an alternative step-down DC/DC converter from Texas Instruments to ensure the delivery availability.

• In future, both hardware revision (revision 3 and revision 4) will co-exist at the same time. Depending on the availability of the DC/DC converter mentioned above, the COMX 51CA-RE will be delivered with hardware revision 3 or hardware revision 4.

Software components remain as they are. The change does not affect the overall function of the product.

 October 2022

Compatibility/Substitution

Mounting, pinning, interfaces are unchanged between all revisions. Software is unchanged.
Revision 2, Revision 3 and Revision 4 of the above-mentioned product are completely compatible
