For Backplane-based Systems

Hilscher’s family of PC Cards is unique in that all PC cards use the same drives and tools, regardless of network protocol and card format. The cifX PC cards support all Real-Time Ethernet and fieldbus protocols in all popular PC card formats.

The protocol stack is executed autonomously on the PC card and data exchange with the host is done via Dual Port Memory (DPM) or Direct Memory Access (DMA). A change of the communication protocol is done by simply loading a different firmware.

For Compact and Embedded Systems

The netHOST is designed for compact PCs or embedded systems that have an Ethernet interface instead of PC card slots. It functions like a remote PC card or “Remote Scanner”.

The DeviceNet version is a fully featured DeviceNet Master for up to 63 DeviceNet Slaves. A simple TCP/IP-based transport protocol transfers the services between the controlling unit and the device. For device integration, a DLL for Windows and a C source code for embedded solutions is provided. In both cases the API is identical to that of Hilscher’s cifX PC cards.

Long Life Support

All these solutions are based on Hilscher’s own netX chip family. Unique in the industry, netX chips are multiprotocol network controllers, scalable to the application, and with built-in security and authentication. Because netX is a Hilscher product, we can deliver long-term lifecycle support—a minimum of 10 years, but in practice many more and even longer with special arrangements.
