  SENSOR-TO-CLOUD

Enable Predictive Maintenance with sensorEDGE Retrofit

If you're a machine builder with hundreds of machines in the field, then failures are the thing you dread most. You know you need Predictive Maintenance for machines that you maintain and repair, but the cost is prohibitive. Ever wished for a retrofit solution? Well, sensorEDGE is your answer. It's an edge device that continuously measures a machine's critical parameters and sends the sensor data to the cloud. Configuration is automatic and Hilscher bundles a ready-made cloud subscription to let you get on-line in minutes. An API enables data from machines located anywhere in the world to be monitored centrally using your choice of software. READ MORE

SECURITY SUPPORT GETS CLOSER

Hilscher’s CIP Security Extensions Near Completion

Hilscher's implementation of the CIP Security extensions for EtherNet/IP are nearing the pre-release stage. It'll be the first of the industrial networking security extensions to approach full market availability via Hilscher. Once fully certified, Hilscher devices using EtherNet/IP will be able to deploy CIP Security in Hilscher's netX90 SoC. The CIP Security profile leverages the low-level hardware-based security features of netX 90, such as secure boot (to assure that only authentic, unmanipulated firmware is executed on the device,) and secure communications (to prevent unauthorized persons/parties from reading or manipulating the contents of data transmissions.  READ MORE

MOTION CONTROL + COMMUNICATIONS

Single-Chip Solution Combines Real-Time Ethernet and Motion Control

Hilscher has entered the Motion Control market space with a single chip solution that allows popular real-time Ethernet networks to be easily deployed in motor control applications. The solution, designated netMOTION, is based on Hilscher's netX 90 system-on-a-chip (SoC), which combines two Arm® Cortex®-M4 microcontrollers in a single 144-pin BGA package measuring just 10mm x 10mm in footprint. This tiny package is ideal for demanding applications where network, drive and motor begin to merge with one another in a limited space. A Starter Kit based on standard Hilscher development tools is available, including sample code and application examples.  READ MORE

M.2 MASTER AND SLAVE COMMS

New M.2 PC Card Has Master and Slave Functionality

The latest addition to Hilscher's cifX range of PC cards is a communications controller designed for fast-emerging M.2 format markets. It comes in the popular 30x42 mm size, which is specifically aimed at space-limited applications, and is the first to offer master and slave capability together in one M.2 package. The M.2 format allows many add-in functions to be included into systems in tight spaces, along with real-time network connectivity. The netX 100-based card is B+M keyed and can be used with any of Hilscher's 19 master and slave communication protocol stacks. It comes with drivers for the most common operating systems.  READ MORE

 COMMISSIONING VIDEO

netTAP 50 Protocol Converter Explained

A new video is now on-line showing how the netTAP 50 protocol converter is commissioned. netTAP 50 is used for connecting one protocol to a second to allow data to be exchanged transparently. Over 50 combinations of protocol are supported, covering all popular real-time Ethernet networks (PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, etc), most fieldbuses and some legacy protocols. netTAP 50 remains one of Hilscher's most popular products, highlighting that cross-connecting protocols remains a critical requirement. The new video, which features the familiar Sycon configurator, can be watched HERE
